About High Chief Gift
Okonu Foundation

Restoring dignity. Supporting families. Strengthening communities across Nigeria.

A Foundation Built on Compassion & Purpose

High Chief Gift Okonu Foundation (HCGOF) is a registered nonprofit organization and humanitarian NGO in Nigeria dedicated to widow support, child education, orphanage care, and sustainable community development. We exist to restore dignity, reduce poverty, and empower vulnerable families across rural and urban communities in Rivers State, Abia State, and expanding regions in Nigeria.

Inspired by a Mother's Legacy

Our foundation was inspired by the legacy of Late Mrs. Ngozi Okonu, a widow who selflessly supported the needy within her community. Throughout her life, she embodied the spirit of giving — sharing what little she had with widows and vulnerable families around her.

Before her passing, she gave her son a powerful charge that would change thousands of lives:

"Do not let this good work end with me."

— Late Mrs. Ngozi Okonu, Founder's Mother & Foundation's Inspiration

Today, that vision continues through structured humanitarian programs serving thousands annually across Rivers State, Abia State, and beyond. Her memory lives in every widow supported, every child educated, and every family lifted out of poverty.

Why Widow Empowerment in Nigeria Is Critical Now More Than Ever

In many communities across Nigeria, widows face financial hardship, social isolation, and limited access to sustainable income opportunities. Without structured support systems, many are left to raise children alone while struggling to survive.

Widow empowerment in Nigeria is not just charity — it is a pathway to restoring dignity, stability, and long-term community development. At High Chief Gift Okonu Foundation (HCGOF), we believe empowering widows strengthens families and transforms entire communities.

The Reality Many Widows Face

In rural and semi-urban areas of Rivers State and Abia State, widows often:

  • Lose financial security after the loss of a spouse
  • Struggle to provide food and education for their children
  • Face limited employment and business opportunities
  • Experience social stigma or community exclusion

Without intervention, poverty becomes generational. When a widow is supported, children stay in school, families eat regularly, small businesses emerge, and communities grow stronger.

Join the Movement. You can support widow empowerment in Nigeria by donating, partnering with us, volunteering, or sharing our mission. Together, we ensure no widow walks alone.

Share With Widows Outreach in Abia State: Restoring Hope Through Action

In December, High Chief Gift Okonu Foundation hosted the Share With Widows Outreach (SWWO) in Umunwanwa, Abia State, bringing relief, dignity, and joy to vulnerable widows within the community. This annual outreach is part of our commitment to supporting widows in Nigeria with practical assistance and emotional encouragement.

What Each Widow Received

During the Abia outreach, each widow received:

  • A full bag of rice
  • Assorted food items
  • A wrapper (clothing material)
  • An envelope containing financial support

No widow returned home empty-handed. The event was filled with gratitude, unity, and encouragement. For many of the women present, this support meant the difference between a difficult festive season and one filled with relief and dignity.

The outreach was not just about food or finances — it was about restoring confidence and reminding widows that they are valued. The Share With Widows Outreach continues to grow annually, with our goal to expand to even more communities across Nigeria.

Gift Okonu Children's Cheer Outreach (GOCCO): Bringing Joy and Opportunity to Children

Children in underserved communities deserve more than survival — they deserve joy, encouragement, and opportunity. The Gift Okonu Children's Cheer Outreach (GOCCO) was created to bring hope and celebration to children in vulnerable communities while reinforcing the importance of education and mentorship.

What Happens at GOCCO?

  • Meals and refreshments for all attending children
  • Interactive games and fun community activities
  • Mentorship sessions with inspiring role models
  • Educational encouragement and scholarship grants
  • Community bonding and celebration

GOCCO is not just an event — it is a safe space for children to feel seen and supported. Community-based children's programs strengthen confidence, promote school retention, reduce exposure to negative influences, and encourage positive role models.

When children are supported early, communities thrive long-term. Because every child deserves hope.

Share With Widows Outreach 2025 in Rivers State: Impact Report & Highlights

In December 2025, High Chief Gift Okonu Foundation hosted the Share With Widows Outreach (SWWO) in Ogbakiri, Rivers State, reaffirming our commitment to widow support and community empowerment in Nigeria.

Purpose of the Outreach

  • Provide food security support to widows during the festive season
  • Offer direct financial assistance to vulnerable women
  • Restore dignity and strengthen community solidarity

Items Distributed

Each widow received: a bag of rice, food items, a wrapper (clothing material), and an envelope containing financial support — structured to ensure both immediate relief and short-term financial stability.

The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and appreciation. Many widows expressed relief knowing they would not face the festive season without support. Looking ahead, our mission remains: expand outreach coverage, increase empowerment training, strengthen scholarship initiatives, and build sustainable support systems across Nigeria.
